Corte Madera

Corte Madera, meaning “cut wood,” Redwood and Oak timber from the land on “Rancho Corte Madera del Presidio” was transported across the San Francisco Bay to accommodate the rapid growth of early San Francisco and was responsible for much of the construction of the Presidio. Like most of southern Marin, Corte Madera became a ranch farming community and with the formation of the railroads and weekend vacationers would travel across the Bay to explore Marin County. The unique and exquisite nature and gentle sloping hills drove visitors to stay in the newly-erected inns, and fish in the untouched creeks. Today, Corte Madera boasts cleverly constructed homes mostly within walking and biking distance to schools, premier shopping centers, and lush parks. Grab lunch in the ever-popular Towne Center outdoor mall, followed by a stroll in the sunshine to Old Town Corte Madera and enjoy waterway trails. Corte Madera has a large amount of single-level homes, homes near the water, condominiums and several large commercial areas. If shopping is your thing, you’ll love Corte Madera.
